Dentures
Dentures are removable dental appliances used to replace missing teeth.

About This Treatment
They can replace one tooth to all the teeth found in the upper or lower jaw. They can be placed around other teeth to replace the one missing.
Dentures usually require five to six visits to be fabricated in a predictable manner and give high-end comfortable and aesthetic results.
There are different types of dentures:
Complete dentures
These dentures are for patients looking to replace all of their teeth in either their upper or lower jaw. These dentures rely on suction from the oral anatomy, musculature and saliva in the mouth. If the denture requires additional support, this can be achieved with implants on locator attachments.
Partial dentures
These are also removable appliances that can be designed to replace a single or a few missing teeth. These dentures will often be supported by natural teeth and the tissues of the mouth. They can be made from acrylic or on metal framework made of cobalt-chrome or from a resin. This denture can also receive additional support with implants on locator attachments.
Immediate dentures
These are dentures that are placed immediately after a tooth is extracted. They will generally be made of acrylic and are considered an interim denture while the gums heal and bone resorbs around the extraction site. Immediate dentures ensure that you never leave the clinic without teeth. Patients will however require a replacement denture with a more accurately fitting denture after their gums have stabilised.

- Is it painful to wear dentures?
Even a fantastic fitting denture on the day you receive them can normally cause some minor irritation as your mouth becomes accustomed to them. Small adjustments may be required to ensure that the denture is comfortable and not rubbing when you speak and eat. The time taken to get comfortable with your new dentures can vary but generally patients will find that any discomfort clears once they have adapted.
- How do I look after my dentures?
It is very important to keep your dentures clean. It will help you maintain them for longer and keep your mouth healthy. Clean your dentures over a basin or bowl of water to protect them if they fall. Do not brush your dentures with normal toothpaste as it can be too abrasive causing scratches on the denture. You can use ordinary washing up liquid or hand soap and a special denture brush or a soft bristle brush to clean your dentures by hand every day. After rinsing them thoroughly, soak your dentures in water or a water-based cleaning solution overnight.
- Can I go to sleep wearing my dentures?
You should remove your dentures at night to allow your gums and jaw bone a chance to have a break from the pressure of the denture during the day. You must avoid wearing your dentures for 24 hours a day as it increases your susceptibility to infections. If you need to wear your dentures for longer periods of time, you should aim to try and find some time during the day to take the denture out and maintain good hygiene of the denture.
- Can I eat normally with my dentures?
Dentures take some time to adapt to, and most patients do learn how to use their dentures effectively. Most foods can be eaten normally but harder or stickier foods can take longer to adjust to eating. When starting out, it is important to take food in smaller bites and aim to chew on both sides at the same time, to keep the denture balanced.
