Broken Veneers
Dental veneers are made of different ultra -thin materials such as white composite resin or porcelain.
About This Condition
The durability of these materials will differ and so will their breakage point.
Although dental veneers are cemented into place, they can come loose or break off. When dental veneers either fall off, become loose or damaged, it is best to try and save the veneer.
At Identity Dental Clinic, our dentists will assess the veneer for damage and refit it if we judge it appropriate. Wearing damaged dental veneers detracts from the smile and may cause complications.
Dentists consider how long an individual has worn their veneers, the type of veneer and the teeth they are bonded to when recommending veneer restoration or replacement. The course of action taken to fix a broken veneer will depend on the age, veneer type, and its condition.
Following this, many dental practitioners may recommend that the damaged veneer be replaced. Some fractured veneer cases may be repairable with an immediate composite bonding repair or re-cementation of the veneer.
Patients are advised to be prepared for the existing veneer to be removed under local anaesthetic. The patient is then provided with a temporary veneer for a period of 1-2 weeks whilst the dental laboratory fabricates a new porcelain veneer.
