Why Should You Consider Professional Teeth Whitening?

Professional teeth whitening is growing in popularity as the perfect quick and easy solution to enhance your appearance and make your smile sparkle. According to a Statista survey here, 22% of British residents said they would get their teeth professionally whitened, with a further 10% saying they already had. At Identity Smile, we understand ‌everyone has different wants and needs when it comes to professional teeth whitening. That’s why we offer personalised professional teeth whitening services to brighten the colour of your natural tooth to your desired level.

How Long Does Professional Teeth Whitening Last?

In most cases, whitening treatments will last from six months to two years, however, there are many factors that can affect how long your professional teeth whitening will last. Whether we can improve your smile with dental bleaching depends on the type of staining you have.

At Identity Smile, we use many different types of whitening gels. They are either made up of hydrogen peroxide or carbamide peroxide. These gels help to remove enamel surface staining and discolouration. When the gel is applied, it is absorbed into the enamel layer of your tooth. Once inside the enamel, a chemical reaction occurs that dissolves the molecules responsible for tooth stains.

Your teeth will appear visibly whiter in as quickly as one hour and, for best results, we send all of our clients away with a take home kit to ensure the effects are as long-lasting as possible.

The whitening effect won’t last as long if you smoke, drink red wine, tea or coffee, or eat a lot of foods containing tumeric and cumin. These are all known to stain your teeth.

Everybody’s teeth respond differently to professional teeth whitening. There are multiple factors that will affect the intensity of the end result, from the thickness of your enamel to genetics. Clients should also keep in mind that fillings, crowns, bridges and implants will not whiten. Therefore, they may need to be changed after the process to match the brighter shade.

Aftercare – When Can I Brush My Teeth After Professional Teeth Whitening?

After professional teeth whitening, your teeth may be slightly more sensitive than normal for a few hours, so we don’t recommend brushing your teeth straight away. You should also avoid any foods and drinks that might stain your teeth like soy sauce, balsamic vinegar, curries and caffeine for at least two days following your procedure.

After you’ve had professional teeth whitening, ‌ensure to brush your teeth regularly, potentially more often than usual, to ensure your teeth continue to sparkle! Brushing your teeth immediately after eating can also help brush away stains that are likely to build up on the surface of your teeth, making it a good habit to form post-whitening.

At Identity Smile, though we encourage our clients to be mindful of their intake of food and drinks liable to teeth-staining post-treatment, we understand that avoiding caffeine altogether just isn’t an option for some. If that sounds like you, we recommend always drinking your coffee or tea through a metal straw to avoid future staining.

Another lifestyle habit that can badly stain your teeth is smoking. In order to achieve optimal results from your professional teeth whitening treatment, we recommend making it a goal to stop smoking altogether. If you ‌choose to stop, not only will your teeth stay whiter for longer, but your overall health will also improve.

Is Professional Teeth Whitening Worth It?

Professional teeth whitening is one of the best options if you’re looking for permanent results. The bleaching solution present in over-the-counter solutions isn’t as strong as the one used at our clinic, meaning it will undoubtedly be less effective and last for a shorter ‌time. Also, because the trays and strips provided in at-home treatments aren’t designed to perfectly fit around your teeth, the bleaching solution often leaks out and irritates your gums.

For some patients for whom tooth whitening does not provide a white enough look, we can discuss with them other procedures options such as Veneers and Bonding.

At Identity Smile, we pride ourselves on providing a safe and superior professional teeth whitening service in London. One of the biggest factors that often deters people from opting for professional whitening treatments is concerns over the cost of professional teeth whitening. At Identity Clinic, we’re pleased to offer our clients treatment plans starting from £525, with all of our dentists on hand to share their knowledge and answer any questions you may have, even after your appointment with us.

Before the procedure, your dentist will perform an examination, ensuring your gums and teeth are healthy enough for the treatment, keeping you informed every step of the way.

If you’d like to book a consultation to discuss whether you’d be a good candidate for professional teeth whitening, call us on 020 3997 1616, and one of our dentists will be happy to carry out an initial assessment. Or, if you’d prefer, you can submit a form using the navigation on our site and a member of our team will get back to you with answers to any questions you may have.
